Greece will face Poland, Russia and the Czech Republic in the group stages of the European Championships of 2012 which will be co-hosted by Poland and Ukraine in 6 months time.

Kiev hosted a star surrounded event for the official drawing of the Euro 2012 group stage groups and pairings per game.

Greece was drawn into Group A with the Poles, Russians and Czechs and will face Poland first up, followed by the Czechs and Russia in its final group stage match.

There are two interesting similarities to 2004. Greece with open the tournament as they did in 2004, this time against Poland on the 8 th of June.

On the 12 th of June they will face the Czechs and on the 16 th they will face off with Russia just like in Portugal 8 years ago.

In the chance that Fernando Santos’s team does progress to the next round, they will face one of the two top seeds of Group B which has been dubbed – the group of death.

Greeks all around the globe are very optimistic with the group that has been drawn for the Ethniki in what is one of the best scenarios possible and gives the team a chance to make a much needed splash following ordinary performances at major tournaments since the magical month in Portugal in 2004.

Best of luck to the Greek National Team.

The Groups:

Group A

Poland, Greece, Russia, Czech Republic

Group B

Holland, Denmark, Germany, Portugal

Group C

Spain, Italy, Croatia, Ireland

Group D

Ukraine, Sweden, France, England
